The Brick Piano is Jim's new blog about pianos, music, and being a working musician
It is a frequently updated visual diary, with more or less random thoughts and experiences centered around the piano and the life of a professional pianist. Some posts are humorous bits of news, some are nice piano photos, and some are just musings about the instrument.
If you like pianos--or if you're a working musician--you'll enjoy the blog.

Besame Mucho, the most popular Lation song ever recorded, has just been named the 'Official Motto of Mexico City.' The title means "kiss me a lot" and is part of Mexico City's attempt to break the world record for a "mass kiss-in," according to a story February 13 in the New York Times. Besame Mucho, in a wonderful, relaxed arrangement, is on Jim Gibson's Love Songs CD. It's the perfect song for someone you love. Just ask the mayor of Mexico City!

Tapestry is something a little different Tapestry is Jim Gibson's first CD of all-original music. Reviewers love it, our retailers are re-ordering it, and people tell us it's Jim's most relaxing recording yet.
This is Jim's most unusual recording and features fourteen impressionistic compositions. Jim's fifteen previous CDs present well-known songs played with the familiar sound of the grand piano, but Tapestry takes advantage of the many relaxing sounds available to keyboard players today . . . the very mellow bell-like tones of the electric piano, and the sound of an acoustic guitar. These are warm, relaxing sounds that compliment Jim's compositions . . . quiet and gentle. Many of these compositions were inspired by peaceful scenes in Georgia's coastal islands and the North Carolina mountains. Others are simple melodies that seem to be a natural fit with the serene sounds that Jim has chosen. Tapestry is something different from Jim Gibson . . . and we know you'll enjoy it! Another "Tea CD" Scheduled for 2010 Jim is at work on several new CDs. One will be impressionistic solo piano improvisations built around two larger compositions that were commissioned by Pearl Dexter, publisher of Tea: A Magazine. These compositions are the musical soundtrack for a DVD of photographs from tea plantations around the world. (This DVD, The Landscape of Tea, is currently available from the magazine. Details at www.teamag.com.) Another CD project scheduled for 2010 is Favorite Hymns II--Hymns of Solace and Peace, and it will feature more classic hymns played in Jim's unusual and melodic style. In fact, Jim's arrangements of these important hymns will be designed to support quietness and to create an appropriate environment for meditation and prayer. A third project will the the next CD in our "Melodies We Love" series--this one will be Melodies We Love, the Fifties, and it will join our Forties and Thirties titles in presenting wonderful, flowing solo piano arrangements of much-loved songs. The final project on the front burner will be something very different--a CD of classic jazz standards with Jen Hansen, a well-known Canadian singer who now lives in Atlanta. Jen and Jim share a deep appreciation for the "Great American Songbook" and this recording will present quiet, direct, uncluttered arrangements of songs you know and love. Watch for more information! Information on these new project swill be updated as Jim moves forward with them. If you're a regular Hickory Cove Music customer, you'll be notified when a new title is released.
